Sat Jul XXIV

Went fishing a.m.

p.m. walked around Mt Manganui + had a giant Icecream

Uncle Neil was very much into exactly the sort of sports that I was not. After the golf of our previous meeting with him he now took me fishing, a pastime which has never appealed to me in the slightest.

Sheelagh and Neil lived in a large bungalow on what I have always remembered as being a small fruit farm, although I could be wrong in this. It was certainly large enough – whatever it was – for them to need a small tractor. All four of the children were given the chance to drive it around the yard, Karen and I on our own, Lisa and Kevin in the company of an adult. Even Dad, who at the time could not drive, had a go. Afterwards, Uncle Neil announced that we were all very good drivers and would all pass our driving tests first time. He clearly had unexpected gifts of prophecy, because so far all of us who have taken the test have done just that.

Tom and Alex both rode that same tractor in 2008 when we went back to the farm 🙂
