Mon Mar XXIX

Bn didn’t turn up so no nets. n.s.

I mentioned before that Mr Bean was a bit unreliable. You can sense from the brevity of this post that I wasn’t overly disappointed at his absence. After all, the season was long over and I wasn’t having the best of times with this particular game. In fact, there’s almost a sense of ennui within the post, a feeling of being glad not to have to turn up.

It is important to note a difference between now and then, though. Nowadays, kids all seem to have their own kit and reliance upon the school kit bag is limited. If this had happened in 2012, we would almost certainly have had enough bats, pads and gloves to have held our own net session. Back in 1982 everything was in two big canvas bags in Mr Bean’s car/taxi. Without him, we were stuck.
